The revolution is growing here in Portland

Despite my enthusiasm for typewriters (and typing itself of course), it seems that I’m not really all that dialed in when it comes to the typewriter scene in general. Fortunately, I happen to know a couple of guys who are dialed in to the typewriter scene. They both also happen to be authors, which I must admit impresses me. It should probably go without saying that they both happen to be typewriter enthusiasts as well.

Both Anthony Connolly (whose latest book is “The Smallest Universe“) and Bob Marshall (who is busy setting up a typewriter exhibit at the Riverside Art Museum when he’s not repairing typewriters) turned me on to the f act that there is a new typewriter-focused business opening here in Portland, Oregon.

As it turns out, Type Space is located just a few blocks from my house (which serves as the home base for the Center for Typewritten Communications and Typewriter Reclamation, Guth’s Tap & Type, Stumptown Type Shop, TypeBar-ista Cafe, and whatever else I can come up with for new stationery designs moving forward — yes, I’ve created quite the typewriter empire in my mind). A quick peek at the shop today revealed that Type Space will be setup in a very nice storefront. I’ll have to be sure to pay them a visit after they open next week.

Not only does the revolution appear to be alive and well, but it is continuing to grow…

AFTERTHOUGHTS:Type Space is located at 2409 SE 49th Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 97206.

    1. It takes about five minutes to walk there — although with a typewriter in tow, it might take slightly longer. I look forward to checking the place out soon.

  1. Hi Bill,

Does not seem fair for Portland, OR to have 7-8 shops /or repair resources and now another new addition…when Boise , ID does not even have one (1).

Glad to read this one is just down the block from your home. How lucky !!!

    1. Hi Pete, I have to admit that Portland is quite the typewriter town. But everything is a trade off. Here in Portland we do have our fair share of headaches over things that folks in Boise don’t have to contend with.

    1. I got a chance to visit Type Space today. The shop struck me as wonderful as did the people who are working to make it happen. Very encouraging.
