It’s 1:45 a.m. on New Year’s day and it seems that I can’ t come up with anything better to do than to crank out yet another blog post. Christ! This is pathetic even by my standards. But what the hell, I’m here to celebrate. Not the ringing in of the new year (I didn’t even notice the clock striking midnight due to a lack of interest on my part), but the start of another year of typecasting. That’s right, the 4th anniversary of The Typewritemosphere quietly slipped by a few days ago on December 29th. Four years might not be all that long compared to a number of the other typewriter-related blogs out there, but for me this is honestly a bit of a shocker. Back when I was still pondering whether or not I truly wanted to have a go at blogging about typewriters and other related things, I thought that I would be lucky to last for one full year. Now here I am more than four years later (and I continue to question my ability to come up with more typewriter-related content).
I have gone through some pretty obvious dry spells over the past four years. This past year has been the most challenging of them all. But I’m not really surprised as I was expecting things to become more challenging once I reached the point where I was done with buying additional machines. These days it is looking more and more like any content that has been written with the use of a typewriter will need to be enough to qualify for inclusion on this blog going forward. But I guess that we will just have to see how things play out ( as has always been the case). In life I am doing my best to take things just one day at a time. As far as this blog is concerned, taking things one post at a time is probably the right way to go.
I will give myself a sincere pat on the back for sticking to my plan to typecast all of my blog posts. Back before I was even aware that it was called typecasting, I was getting a kick out of those individuals who were typing up their content — just so they could then scan it before ultimately posting it up on their respective blogs. I was well aware that there were far more efficient ways to go about publishing web content as I had spent more than two decades of my professional career building websites of one sort or another. But I felt that there was something gloriously crazy about incorporating a typewriter into the publishing workflow of a website and I wanted in on it. Considering that writing with these machines has always been my favorite aspect of typewriter ownership, looking back on things this all makes sense.
Finally, I offer a sincere thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read anything that I have written on this blog over the past four years. I offer an even bigger thanks (and still just as sincere) to those who have made the effort to leave a comment following any of my posts. Please know that I genuinely appreciate you all.
AFTERTHOUGHTS: By the way, Happy New Year everyone! (At least I’m hoping that it will be a happy one.)
Happy New Year!
Thanks Bill, here’s hoping for the best!
Thanks again Bill for another installment of your blog. I always enjoy your stories a reporting and look forward to them for years to come.
Ah, a brand new shiny new year. I am reminded of a passage from a very old computer game. I put in direction command and entered…
A MAZE OF TWISTY PASSAGES, ALL ALIKE,
This is analogous to entering this new year. Stand by for action.
Much appreciated Mike and good luck with the quest.😄
Congrats on 4 Years! 😀
Time is a mover, she never slows down…
Thanks Ted. If anything she is speeding up.
Congrats, Bill! Wishing you another great year of typecasting.
Thanks Joe, much appreciated.
I’ve only recently found this blog but enjoy your musings.
One thing I am sure you can be grateful for is the friends and penpals you have made. I noticed in the first post I read, you had a stack of letters to tend to. Always a nice problem to have.
Happy New Year.
Thanks Jason. Yes, the typewriter community has proven to be a great surprise. I could have done a better job with the caption for the image you are referring to. That was a picture of the letters I have already replied to over the past year (but have yet to file away out of sight). If we’re lucky, we never manage to get fully caught up with our correspondence.
I eagerly look forward to your next offering… 🙂
HAPPY belated NEW YEAR Bill! I always enjoy the bounty from the Typewritemosphere… can’t wait for the next one.
